Job Information and Responsibilities


Under the direction of the Assistant Director, Student Culture and Experience, the position is accountable for the leadership and oversight of a large and comprehensive student success, engagement and retention portfolio, and provides regular assessments and reports on SEM programs to the AVP Academic & Enrolment Management and the AVP Student Affairs and Services (SAAS) who serve as SEM (Strategic Enrolment Management) Committee leadership.

The Manager supervises several positions and oversees programs and initiatives that contribute to student success, such as Early Alert, Peer Coaching, orientation and transitions (Welcome Weeks), pre-arrival programming and communication, leadership and development programming, and academic learning skills supports and programming.

The position will serve on and liaise with various committees, working teams and offices that are involved in various areas of SEM. The position will also be actively involved in the development, maintenance and usage of the new Customer Relations Management (CRM) software within SAAS. The position will be required to work with staff to develop enhanced transition and student success programming and will guide the development of various forms of learning skills and peer support programs to support and engage students. The Manager will lead in the development of assessment strategies for programs and will work strategically to build collaborations within the Student Success Centre, SAAS, SEM Committees, and the broader university. The position will chair committees and sit on relevant SEM committees.

The position is responsible for The Centre which is an evolving environment with shared office spaces, which may include staff working both on-site and remotely. The Manager will address challenges of working in a decentralized space while achieving desired team goals and outcomes.

Group affiliation for this position is with the Administrative, Professional, Confidential (APC) Group. The position is evaluated at a Group Seven (7) (salary range $72,377- $93,276). Salary scale can be viewed here.

Experience and Education Requirements


To be the successful Manager, Student Success, you will possess an undergraduate degree in a related field such as Education, Business, Social Work or Psychology. A Master’s degree would be considered an asset. A minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of directly related experience in student services, retention program development and/or student life programming. You will have intermediate to advanced skill level with MS Office (especially Word, Outlook), excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines and negotiate changes in priorities as required. Strong presentation skills, the proven ability to be persuasive and to effect positive change while building strong relationships with the ability to research, process, organize and present information interestingly and convincing. You must be collaborative, positive and have a professional approach to working with teams and colleagues in a diverse and inclusive environment with the ability to prioritize work assignments and deliver by the appropriate deadlines. You must have supervisory experience (Experience in a unionized environment is considered an asset) and you must demonstrate intercultural awareness and a commitment to principles of equity and inclusion. Understanding of academic and administrative structures will round out your qualifications as the successful candidate. CRM Advise experience is an asset.
