To continue building on its mission of providing high-quality learning and supporting the well-being of the people of Vancouver Island and coastal British Columbia, VIU seeks an Associate-Vice President, International Education to provide strong leadership, oversight and strategic vision for the University’s Department of International Education.


Working closely with the CFO and VP, Administration as well as other members of the Senior Management Team (SMT), the Associate Vice-President, International Education will provide overall leadership and direction for the entire operation of the Department, including the development and review of guiding principles, policies and procedures, as well as the vision for the International Education in support of the University’s strategic priorities. The incumbent will be responsible for recruitment and admissions of international students, the promotion of student success and the provision of relevant supports for international students. They will advance the University’s global engagement through the coordination of international activities among the Faculties, and by leading the establishment and strengthening of VIU’s global reputation and partnerships.


As the ideal candidate, you bring a blend of academic, business, and international leadership experience and the entrepreneurial approach required for success in this role. You have significant experience in international education leadership and management, international student services, and international marketing and recruitment strategies. You have comprehensive knowledge of Canada’s post-secondary education environment and are comfortable leading complex programs. As a collaborative leader, you have the proven ability to work with diverse stakeholders, including academic leaders, faculty, staff and students. You have significant experience managing teams with the demonstrated ability to engage people, drive results and manage change. Strategic by nature, you bring a global perspective and a deep understanding of the value of partnerships. You are dynamic, hands-on, self-sufficient, and you have a passion for enhancing cross-cultural communication.
