The Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies (LA&PS) is the largest Faculty at York University with over 23,000 undergraduate and graduate students, and almost 100 programs delivered through 24 Departments, Schools and Colleges, plus the IBM Markham Learning Site. In this role you will be accountable for playing a leadership role in supporting faculty members and advancing the goals of teaching excellence with regards to classroom pedagogy within LA&PS. This includes supporting course design across all programs, faculty engagement in research on teaching and learning, promotion and facilitation of professional development opportunities for faculty members, promoting and supporting training in the effective use of active learning practices, and quality assurance advising for cyclical program review and evaluation with regards to learning outcomes. In addition, you will create and lead a positive, supportive, and student-focused team environment of high performance, respect, trust, collaboration, and continuous improvement, and embraces diversity and fosters inclusion. In this role, you will liaise and collaborate with the Office of the Associate Vice-President Teaching & Learning, Teaching Commons, Associate Deans Teaching and Learning Council, the LA&PS Faculty Curriculum and eServices eLearning teams, and the subcommittee on Research and Innovation in Teaching and Learning to ensure alignment between LA&PS and pan-university strategic direction and framework for Engaged Teaching at York.
To be considered for this opportunity, you will bring the following:
PhD in Education required. Additional credentials and training related to Assessment and Evaluation or other closely related fields is required. A minimum of 5 years related experience in an academic post-secondary and/or Faculty environment, conducting program evaluation, policy analysis and research/data collection and analysis. You must have demonstrated expertise and experience in using social science methodologies to guide the development, evaluation, and improvement of programs. Proven leadership experience managing staff in a unionized environment, and managing projects is also required. Teaching experience at the post-secondary level is an asset. You will work with faculty members and senior leaders in the Faculty of LA&PS and across the University, requiring a high degree of professionalism, diplomacy, the ability to build credibility and persuade others. A comprehensive experience with and understanding of a Faculty with similar structure to LA&PS and the post-secondary education system is also strongly preferred in order to work effectively with partners and project teams within the Faculty and more broadly across the University.
