Thompson Rivers University is seeking an exceptional professional with specialized skills in the area of violence against women/gender-based violence to fill the role of Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Manager (the Manager). Housed within the Office of the Dean of Students, the Manager is charged with the following primary responsibilities:
Coordinating a comprehensive, survivor-led university response upon receiving disclosures of sexual and gender-based violence (including but not limited to sexual assault, sexual harassment, domestic and family violence) from members of the university community. A coordinated response may include arranging academic and living accommodations.
Drafting safety plans for survivors of sexual violence and providing support and information regarding university resources and complaint resolution procedures.
Working closely with relevant stakeholders, reflecting campus diversity, to initiate and implement campus-wide sexual violence prevention programming.
Acting as a centralized data collection hub for gathering information on incidences of sexual violence and gender-based violence specific to the TRU community.
Guided by all relevant University policies and protocols, the Manager will undertake the following duties:
Sexual, Intimate and Family Violence Response Coordination
Ensure timely and appropriate support to all disclosures of gender-based violence.
Liaise with various university offices, administrative, and teaching staff, to coordinate appropriate workplace, residence, and academic accommodations for survivors of violence.
Provide support, advocacy and information to survivors contemplating or engaged in informal or formal University complaints resolution processes or external investigations and criminal processes.
Collaborate with community-based women's anti-violence organizations to develop campus safety plans for survivors.
Facilitate referrals to community agencies and university resources.
Remain current on sexual and gender-based violence prevention research and legislation, and national trends.
Initiate and promote educational and training opportunities that advance a feminist/anti-oppressive response to individual and systemic incidents of violence against women/gender-based violence.
Establish, maintain, and promote effective relationships with individuals, campus offices, alumni, related organizations, and external agencies.
Review and update the Sexual Violence Response Protocol every two years.
Design and implement comprehensive data collection methods to record disclosures of gender-based violence on campus and reported incidents of sexual violence and gender-based violence experienced by the university community off-campus.
Develop and implement strict confidentiality guidelines governing the maintenance, release and sharing of data collected by the Manager.
Ensure that record-keeping for such confidential disclosures is up-to-date.
Prepare an annual report based on data related to violence against sexual violence and gender-based violence. The report will be presented to the Board of Governors, the President, Vice-Presidents, Deans, and to the broader university community.
Coordinate annual Sexual Violence Response Protocol training targeted toward a variety of populations, including but not limited to, student leaders, faculty, and staff likely to receive disclosures of sexual violence and gender-based violence, faculty and staff with supervisory responsibilities, and those whose day-to-day responsibilities involve working closely with students.
Coordinate orientation week anti-violence programming for all new students, in partnership with the Residences, the Director of Student Affairs, and community-based women's anti-violence organizations (KSACC, etc.).
In partnership with the Wellness Centre, Human Resources, and relevant staff, faculty and student associations, coordinate violence against sexual violence and gender-based violence prevention training activities including: bystander intervention training, sexual health education, what is consent? training, training on violence against women/gender-based violence and skills development related to providing survivor support.
Education and Awareness Campaign Advising and Development
In partnership with the Wellness Centre, Human Resources, and relevant staff, faculty and student associations, provide consultation in the development and implementation of an annual awareness campaign addressing sexual violence and gender-based violence and consent.
Provide consultation in the development, implementation and assessment of events, programs and awareness on issues related to gender-based, sexual, intimate and family violence occurring on campus.
Work collaboratively with other departments and student organizations to address continuing and emerging campus needs on issues related to sexual violence and gender-based violence
Campus Collaborations and Consultation
Provide consultation and information to faculty and staff on student issues related to anti-violence practices as requested.
Participate in various campus committees as required.
Maintain ongoing relationships with community agencies on sexual, intimate and family violence prevention with a specific focus on agencies working with equity-seeking groups including persons with disabilities, LGBTQ+ communities, First Nations, Métis and Inuit persons and members of racialized communities.
