LE,NONET is a holistic suite of programs and services (academic, financial, cultural and social) designed to support Indigenous student success. Building on this approach, the LE,NONET First Year Coordinator (Coordinator) provides academic preparation and student support by serving as the primary point of contact in IACE and the First Peoples House for first-year undergraduate Indigenous students from faculties and programs across the university. Reflecting these responsibilities, the Coordinator reports formally to the Associate Director Academic regarding LE,NONET program responsibilities and reports indirectly to the IACE Associate Director and the OSL Manager, Student Support regarding student support responsibilities.
The Coordinator develops, delivers and oversees LE,NONET academic and cocurricular programming for Indigenous undergraduate students from the point of admission to the second year transition. These responsibilities include:
teaching an introduction to university success seminar, including topics such as introductions to the library and academic research, academic integrity, reading and note-taking strategies, etc.;
creating and delivering workshops and events for Indigenous first year students, including topics such as academic skills, key campus resources and supports, health and wellness, etc.;
creating and delivering culturally-relevant community-building events for Indigenous first year students;
developing and delivering outreach programming for Indigenous students who have been admitted to the university, including information about registering, applying for financial aid, etc.; and
developing and delivering programs and workshops to support Indigenous students transitioning to second year.
