Reporting to the Vice President, Student Affairs, the Director, Student Services and Wellness provides strategic leadership, planning, development, and administration of a comprehensive array of college-wide policies and services to support and enhance student success and wellness, while ensuring college strategic goals are met or exceeded. The Director oversees various functional areas to provide highly integrated and student focused services that support academic and personal student success, health, and mental wellbeing. The Director is the primary source of guidance and consultation on student services and student-related matters, providing expert advice to college management, faculty and community partners on issues pertaining to student rights, student behaviour (including disruptiveness) and student-centred facilities, services, and practices. The Director ensures appropriate liaison with other departments and academic divisions to respond to and coordinate matters relating to student safety, incident investigations and student behaviour management on- and off-campus.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Master’s degree in education, counselling/student services, or a closely related field.
Formal education and training related to principles of human behaviour and learning, including abnormal psychology and deviant behaviour.
Formal education and training related to educational administration.
Minimum of 11 years relevant experience in a postsecondary education environment in positions of progressive levels of responsibility.
A minimum of 5 years demonstrated and relevant management experience.
Knowledge of student development theory and programs.
Knowledge of mediation and/or conflict resolution strategies and methods; skill in mediating disputes.
Strong leadership, relationship building, and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated continuous learning in the areas of threat and risk assessment, harassment, and bullying.
Strong computer skills.
Strong human resource and financial management skills.
Ability to develop collaboration among diverse groups; ability to think “outside of the box” and to lead and manage change.
Experience in the development, management and continuous improvement of business processes and change management.
Sound knowledge of appropriate legislation pertaining to the postsecondary educational environment such as: Ontario Human Rights Code, the Criminal Code of Canada, AODA, etc.
