CACUSS 2021 Conference Update

September 24, 2020

While the annual conference of your association may not be at top of your mind at this busy time of year, our National Program Committee and staff team have been working hard in planning for our signature event scheduled for late May 2021 in Fredericton, NB. We have had many conversations and discussed various scenarios. We reached out to our AACUSS colleagues and our members in Atlantic Canada. In the end, much like your leadership at your institution, the Board was faced with a difficult decision. CACUSS will not hold an in-person national conference in 2021. We felt it was important to make the decision now, to honour the work of our Program Committee and allow our small staff team enough time to plan.

We do think it is very important to continue to connect and share knowledge as a national community of student affairs professionals. We have many important things to discuss, and much to learn. Racial Justice, the impact of COVID-19 on our students and our operations. mental health and well-being, and continued efforts on decolonizing our institutions and building our Indigenous cultural competency. We also want to give our Communities of Practice the opportunity to gather and share knowledge. Therefore, we will be hosting a national event in late May 2021 to gather us together in an online/virtual format, to share, learn, and support one another. Details will be forthcoming, but we will do everything we can to make the event engaging, accessible, and innovative. And we will need you there! Please stay tuned for more details regarding dates, call for proposals, and registration information coming soon!

I want to thank Dr. Angie Clarke from the Marine Institute of Memorial University, Chair of the 2021 Program Committee, and all the Program Committee members including our Host Team at University of New Brunswick for their guidance and significant effort to date.  Their dedication to our community is amazing and many are willing to adapt to this new event.
