Webinar: Recognize, Respond and Refer Students Experiencing Mental Health Challenges

10am PST / 11am MST / 12pm CST / 1pm EST / 2pm AST / 2:30pm NST

More Feet on the Ground seeks to address the lack of training on mental health and addictions that responds directly to the specific needs of post-secondary students within the post-secondary environment. Many studies on early-alert and early-intervention initiatives with students show that he earlier staff learn of students’ needs, the more effective their interventions. Often, campus staff who are not mental health professionals tend to be the first point of contact for students, such as resident advisers or teaching assistants. Thus, providing mental health awareness training is important in building a campus infrastructure that is supportive for its students. This training tool is intended to be a one-stop shop for any campus professional looking to understand more about mental health and refer a student to relevant programs or departments. Participants will be introduced to the “Recognize”, “Respond”, “Refer” and “Reflect” training components of More Feet on the Ground and we will discuss how the resources provided can be useful for campus staff and faculty in understanding topics such as how to recognize when a student is struggling, and the professional boundaries when referring a student to the appropriate resources.
