Sexual consent policies and students' actual lived experiences are not aligned. Coercion and assault rates haven't changed in 60 years. Their causes and effects are multidimensional, as is the thinking and action required for transformation. In this webinar, fellow CACUSS member Dr. Jason Laker will share findings and implications from an ongoing interview-based ethnographic research program focused on sexual consent communication among cisgender, queer, and kink-practicing students in higher education settings. Implications for professional practice will be discussed.
Dr. Jason Laker is a Professor of Counselor Education and former Vice President of Student Affairs at San José State University in California; and Affiliated Research Faculty with the Center for Research and Education on Gender and Sexuality at San Francisco State University. Jason previously served as AVP/Dean of Student Affairs and Faculty of Gender Studies at Queen’s University (Canada).
