2019 Student Affairs Assessment Institute

CACUSS is excited to partner with ACPA to deliver the 2019 Student Affairs Assessment Institute in July 2019 in Toronto, Ontario. The Institute provides a guided, curricular experience where participants can develop essential assessment knowledge and skills for their professional toolkit. The Student Affairs Assessment Institute provides a balance of instruction and hands-on experience designed to ensure attendees leave with the assessment skills and knowledge necessary to develop and execute quality assessment plans on their campuses. 

The Student Affairs Assessment Institute is proud to offer two developmental tracks focused on meeting attendees' needs:


Program-level Assessment: Primarily designed to meet the needs of professionals who are charged with overseeing the development, implementation, and assessment of programs, services, and initiatives. Participants will walk away with a start-to-finish assessment plan designed to measure and use the results of student learning and programmatic outcomes.

Assessment Coordination: Professionals who have responsibilities that include managing a variety of large-scale assessment projects and leading assessment at a department or divisional level will be best suited within the Assessment Coordination track. Participants will walk away with new knowledge and skills for developing a comprehensive department or divisional assessment plan that will be implemented at their institution.

Pre-Institute Sessions

  • Key Fundamentals/Assessment 101: Introduction to assessment in student affairs that will prepare you to actively engage in the institute.
  • Program Review (CAS): Understand key concepts and the process required to successfully conduct a Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS) program review.
  • Curriculum Assessment: A primer to assess curriculum-driven student experiences from department-level to program efforts.

Please note that our registration system does not permit registering for two events on the same registration. If you would like to register for a pre-institute session, you must do do on a separate registration and transaction. If you prefer to have your Institute and pre-institute registrations on the same invoice, contact megan@cacuss.ca.

Whether you are brand new to assessment, taking on new responsibilities in your individual unit, or charged with developing a division-wide plan for assessment, the ACPA Student Affairs Assessment Institute is the answer for your professional development needs! The Institute is focused on providing developmental assessment knowledge and may not be the best professional development opportunity for more advanced practitioners. Registration information

CACUSS is pleased to offer registration for Canadian participants in Canadian dollars. This registration is running parallel to the registration on the ACPA website, so please ensure you only register once. You can register on either the CACUSS website (CDN registration fees) or the ACPA website (USD registration fees). You do not need to register on both.

Cancellation Policy: Event cancellations must be received in writing (via email to megan@cacuss.ca) no later than June 14, 2019. No refunds will be issued if the request is received after June 14, 2019. Cancellations received prior to June 14, 2019 will receive a refund minus a $75 administration fee. Your event registration can be transferred to another delegate. Transfer requests must be received in writing (via e-mail to megan@cacuss.ca) prior to June 14, 2019. Transfers are subject to a $20 administration fee.


The host hotel for the Institute is the Courtyard Toronto Downtown. Single rooms are available for $209 CAD plus tax, and double rooms are available for $229 CAD plus tax. Reservations should be made by calling 1 (800) 847-5075 or online via the Marriott website.
